Jensen Nature Park-Aperture baby!!

Jen and I hit Jensen Nature Park to try and play around with aperture. I used my 50 mm lens the whole time and had a lot of fun trying to change the focal point so I could get different angles of ‘blur’!!

Here, I put the fountain in focus.

Here, I put the tree in focus, obviously.

Skate-a-rama!!

What’s up, it’s Patience. I was so excited for our first photo group get together!! Yeah, it was last month, but its taken us a little bit of time to get the blog up and rolling. So, here’s some of my favorite pics from that morning. It was FREEZING and we were trying to focus on shutter speed. I loved taking these action shots of my nephew jumping off the bar thingy.
Canon 24-135 lens with settings at f/5.0, 1/1250, ISO 200…
Fast shutter speed captures action, right?

I also snagged one of Garrett barely on the tip of the board…
A little overexposed…
Settings at f/10.0, 1/160, ISO 400 (I shoulda put the ISO down to like 100 or 200)
My shutter speed was slower, but I had my focus on “servo” which locks your subject but you have to follow your kid closely…
Oh, and I added a “seventies” action in photoshop.

And one of my niece…
Settings at f/10.0, 1/100. ISO 400

Here’s some of the other chics in the group…

Photo Club Meeting #1 - Shutter Speed

For our first shoot we hit the skatepark
to work on shutterspeed.

A little explanation of shutter speed:
Shutter speed is what we use to show motion.
A higher ss will freeze the motion
(see the kid jumping in the below pic)
and a slower ss
will blur/show the motion
(see last pic).

The Pioneer Woman says:
*The LONGER the shutter stays open, the MORE light enters the camera.
* The SHORTER the amount of time the shutter is open, the LESS light enters the camera.

If you would like to learn more about shutter speed
you can read here and here
(the last one is my very favorite photography blog!).

I can't say that I got alot of shots with an emphasis on
the ss but, I did get some fun shots.
These were all shot with my canon 40d 28-105mm 3.5-4.5.
ss - 640 fstop 3.5 iso 400
ss - 640 fstop 4.0 iso 400
ss - 640 fstop 4.0 iso 400
ss - 640 fstop 3.5 iso 400
ss - 1/30 fstop 25 iso 400

Welcome!

We hope you are as excited as we are
to get started with our new blog.

Patience and I have both been
working on our camera
skills for a couple years now.
And we thought this blog and
meeting once a month to shoot
would be great forums
for us to better our skills
and to share what we have
learned so far.
Meeting on a monthly
basis to get some field
experience will be fun!
And after our meetings
we'll be posting some of
our shots for each other to critique.

Hopefully we will all walk away
able to take better photographs
of our children.

If you have any suggestions, questions,
would like to join in or
would like to do a guest post
let us know!

Jen
